Formerly Homeless Waitress Receives A $2,020 Tip On $23 Meal
Single mom and waitress, Danielle Frazoni, received a pleasant shock while working at Thunder Bay River Restaurant in Alpena, Michigan. She was given a $2020 tip on a $23 tab.
“I’m going to build a future because of this. My kids have a future and I have a home. It’s a big deal. It’s a really big deal,” Frazoni said.
Franzoni has three children, plus another on the way. She is also 2 years into recovery from an opioid addiction. She revealed that she moved from Detroit to Alpena for a fresh start and sobriety. At first, when she moved to Alpena, she had to stay in a homeless shelter until she managed to find work at the restaurant.
Franzoni said, “I had actually woke up at 4 o’clock that morning to my neighbor’s house being engulfed in flames. So I was emotional.”
She added, “They wrote on the receipt Happy New Year Danielle 2020 tip challenge. I cried. I started crying and went right to my manager and asked if this was real. I’m still in complete shock. That doesn’t happen to people like me.”
She has stated that the generous tip is giving her a shot at building the life she wants for her and her children.
Franzoni explained, “It’s a blessing. I’m trying to bring my kids home. I’m trying to do the right thing, and I’m a server. I don’t make great money you know…I moved into my own house today. That was able to happen. I did that today.”
For the first time in 10 years, Franzoni will also manage to get her driver’s license – something that will allow her to see her children, as well as teach her daughter to drive.
And Franzoni didn’t waste any time in paying it forward either. She went out to dinner that same day in celebration, and she too joined the #2020TipChallenge and left her server a $20.20 tip.
Franzoni was never able to thank the customers who left her the life-changing tip, but she hopes that they know just how much they’ve helped get her life back on track.
“They gave my kids a life that they don’t even know that they didn’t have. And I have a chance,” she said.
Best of luck to Danielle, and hopefully her life continues to be blessed for her and her kids.
